Update

I do not have a budget outline because right now I have done all that I can to this point. I have a group of kids to work with that I found through my Spanish teacher. The only problem is we need a place to meet, this is the only delay. So, I sent my proposal over to the a Catholic Priest. He was supposed to review it Saturday to see if we can meet at his church, ect... As soon as I hear back from him I will be able to start. I have everything but a place to meet.

Sorry about the delay -

Technicalities

I have more volunteers than I truthfully expected, including a tentative group for a planning committee. I also have one teacher, an adult volunteer, and a school liaison; this also includes a fluent translator and the possible Spanish Club.
Now, all I need to do is find a definite school and core group of kids. ...

I am extremely happy and surprised with the response I am getting, I just hope it continues when the busy schedule starts Thursday. But, I think starting actual work with the kids after fall sport season was the key. So, we will have 2 full months to plan out everything and get it as close to perfection as possible.

What' s going on ...

Here is what has been completed so far -

I. Project Vision: To provide a support network for the Hispanic students in a public school in my community to increase performance of students in their classes.

II. Importance of Project:

- Justification: This is meeting the needs of the kids who get lost in the public educational system. I have already worked the Somali Bantu refugee's kids with their schoolwork and was able to better understand how much basic help is needed. Whether with homework, or a project, or just answering a simple question it all makes a difference that can be seen almost immediately,
- I decided on this topic through my work with the Hispanic community and by talking to my community leaders.
- I have talked to Susan Brill, a member of the Richland 2 school board and a former County Council member, who is familiar with the demographic of Richland 2.
- I have also spoken with Manny Rodriguez and local Hispanic community leader about the needs of this community.
- My research was done by talking with the local leaders, working with kids previously on schoolwork, and personally talking to members of this community about how to help.

A preview ...

Right now I am the pre - beginning stages of my project. I am really just trying to get organized. For the people who have asked about my website ... Don't worry ... I do know what I am doing. So far I have talked to people about volunteering, and, for the most part - the response is good. I also have a teacher liaison. Now, all I need is a definite school and kids to work with. I have 3 schools in mind, but I am waiting for them to start school officially before I ask.
One of my main worries was that I would not have enough people to volunteer , so I extremely relieved that is taken care of.
